Synbiosys is developing lightweight ceramic/polymer composites for very high velocity projectile protection. This composite technology performs especially well for km/s fragments and limits shock wave lensing effects. It can also be made transparent for window applications.
Synbiosys was created out of the pioneering first ever cohort from the Deep Science Ventures program. It was incorporated in 2017 and its core team of 3 persons has key expertise in shock physics, composite microstructure design and optics.
Our technology absorbs energy at 100kJ/m2/us, propagates energy at 7km/s with minimal (<2%) strain of the structure. Its design is flexible enough to be optimised for a range of projectile threats and velocities. It is currently at TRL 3-4 as is seeking development opportunities.
