This summer, ADS is hosting our inaugural Charity Cycle, bringing together members from across the UK for an unforgettable six-day ride. Over the course of this event, riders will swap their laptops for lycra, embarking on a 478-mile journey from Scotland to Farnborough.
We reached out to our friends at Forces Wives Challenge who are one of our five incredible charities to discuss more about their key priorities, challenges and support for the Charity Cycle…
Who are Forces Wives Challenge?
Established in 2019, Forces Wives Challenge (FWC) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to uniting women who have partners in the Armed Forces through adventure and challenge. Using a military-inspired adventure training model, FWC builds confidence, enhances resilience and fosters strong connections, empowering members to navigate the challenges of military life together.
How does your work contribute to making the UK a better place?
In today’s climate of uncertainty and constant change within Defence, military families are facing increasing pressure. It’s more important than ever that every part of the Armed Forces community feels supported and valued. FWC helps achieve this by creating opportunities for its members to take a break, connect with others who understand their unique challenges, and build lasting support networks. We offer adventurous activities in a safe and encouraging space, empowering women to step outside their comfort zones and accomplish more than they thought possible.
What are your charity’s goals for the next year?
FWC is entering a significant phase of growth. With nearly 2,000 members across all Services, 81 challenges delivered and a further 30 adventurous events planned for 2026, demand for our programmes continues to outstrip supply. To meet this need, FWC plans to expand its reach throughout the UK – especially focusing on the North, South West and Scotland – by delivering a wider variety of activities in terms of type, location, duration and accessibility to reduce barriers to participation.
Additionally, 2026 will mark the growth of the FWC Adventure Academy, which offers adventure-based qualifications. This initiative supports long-term sustainability while opening up even more opportunities for women to take on outdoor challenges and develop new skills.
What does being a beneficiary of the ADS Charity Cycle 2025 mean to your organisation?
As a small organisation, every contribution truly counts and has a big impact. We’re incredibly grateful to ADS for choosing FWC as a beneficiary, and to all the cyclists who are fundraising and taking on such a huge challenge. At FWC, we embrace the spirit of ‘Type 2 fun’ – the kind that’s tough in the moment but so rewarding afterwards. We know this ride will be demanding, but the sense of achievement at the end will make it all worthwhile!
