Avon Valley Precision Engineering (AVPE), near Bristol, manufactures components for Production and Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) in the aerospace and defence industries.

AVPE is a stand out organisation – working with two separate AGP initiatives, benefiting from continuous improvement programme SC21, and funding for an innovative project from NATEP.

AVPE’s ‘Project Fusion’ was granted £150,000 funding from the AGP initiative; National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP).

Project Fusion will develop Airbus certified “Class 2” components manufactured using Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) technology with modified post ALM machining, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and surface treatment processes.

The AGP developed the National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP) aimed at small and medium sized suppliers to help them develop their own innovative technologies to enhance their capabilities and increase their ability to win new business with higher tier companies anywhere in the world.

By continuing to develop an aerospace supply chain with a high rate of innovation, rich in new technologies, the UK will be better able to offer the right products and services, at the right time and ahead of competition. This will ensure that market opportunities are exploited with high value manufacturing work retained in the UK.

AVPE has also won the SC21 Bronze award, for the second consecutive year. Each year, companies are assessed on performance agreements for delivery and quality on a rolling average for five years. This performance level is confirmed and signed off by the Prime customer. The award lasts one year then companies must apply to be assessed again in order to gain accreditation. Being re-awarded demonstrates a company’s operations are meeting high levels consistently.

Commenting on the Bronze level accreditation, AVPE’s Chairman Chris Steel said

“We are delighted to have been re-awarded the SC21 Bronze accreditation, which is a testament to the hard work the AVPE team is putting into performance improvement.”
