Today the Government has published Sir John Parker’s independent report into naval shipbuilding.
The MOD has said this report will inform the government’s National Shipbuilding Strategy to be published in the spring. Writing in today’s Herald, the Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said the government sees a National Shipbuilding Strategy “as a vital part of our Industrial Strategy to rebalance Britain”.
Commenting on the report ADS Chief Executive Paul Everitt said:
“Sir John Parker’s recommendations are an important contribution to transforming the UK’s recognised excellence in naval shipbuilding. It is already a focus of high-skill, high value employment and with a firm programme of work it can play a greater role in supporting UK growth and prosperity, as well as making an essential contribution to our national security.
“The UK has a well-deserved international reputation for expertise in naval shipbuilding; the joint approach and making sure export opportunities are factored into national shipbuilding decisions will provide UK companies with more market opportunities and underpin long-term investment in skills, technology and innovation.”
