On 15 April 2026, the UK Home Office published its statutory guidance explaining the core concepts of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, better known as Martyn’s Law.
The guidance provides clear, practical steps to help businesses and venue operators understand what is expected of them. The security, resilience and policing sectors will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of these steps.
Joe Stokoe, ADS Head of Policing & Law Enforcement Engagement said:
“The publication of the statutory guidance for Martyn’s Law is a welcome and important step forward in improving security outcomes and public safety. The emphasis on proportionate, risk‑based measures and a clear implementation period gives organisations, particularly SMEs, the confidence to plan effectively without unnecessary burden.
The UK security and resilience industry will have a critical role to play in improving public safety at premises and events. ADS will continue to work with government, policing and partners to ensure members understand the guidance, benefit from realistic lead‑times, and see the new requirements aligned with existing safety and licensing regimes.”
