Japan’s space industry is known for applying its world-class industrial and technological skills in research and development (R&D). Now, Japan’s space industry is turning its focus from R&D to the commercialization of space technology.

Already cooperation has begun in the space sector between the UK and Japan, and in December 2017, the UK Space Agency and the Japanese Government signed a joint initiative that will proactively tackle the problem of space debris. The scope for further cooperation and collaboration between the two nations in this sector is considerable, and the Department for International Trade has recently commissioned a report seeking to identify more information in this area.

Paul Ellis, Counsellor, Defence, Security, Cyber and Civil Aerospace, at the British Embassy in Tokyo will provide members with an overview of the Japanese space sector, how to do business in Japan, inward investment opportunities and experiences of UK businesses operating in the Japanese space sector.
