In July 2018, DASA, the Royal Navy Innovation Team Discovery Assessment and Rapid Exploitation (DARE) and the Defence Innovation Unit (DIU) held an innovation ‘Get the Ship in Shape’ event on HMS Queen Elizabeth in HM Naval Base, Portsmouth. This event brought together the Defence innovation community, UK industry, academia and the crew of the ship to find rapid solutions to pressing challenges for the Navy.

Several key challenges were identified including the need to accurately account for and track personnel on board while alongside shore and at-sea, improving safety and efficiency, whilst reducing the administrative burden for staff.

At least £250k is expected to be available through DASA to fund multiple proposals of nine months’ duration, including an on-board testing period.

The competition closes mid-February 2019.
