CCP Gransden have been rewarded by the UK Plastics Industry recently at an impressive ceremony hosted by TV presenter Nick Knowles, in London.

Winners of the Best Technology Application of The Year, the company’s commitment to producing lightweight advanced composite components with the strength and in the production numbers, required by advancing markets such as aerospace and automotive, was applauded by the judges.

CCP Gransden have identified there is an urgent goal in aerospace and advanced manufacturing in general, to replace weighty, steel and aluminium components with mass produced, high strength, lightweight advanced composite components to facilitate product weight reduction.

The judging panel of the prestigious Plastics Industry Awards were impressed by the company’s dedication to meeting the challenging demands of their multi-sector clients by utilising the innovative process of Composite Over-Moulding. Composite Over-Moulding is a process involving the injection moulding of a variety of advanced thermoplastics (that can even be fibre filled) such as Nylons, PEI, PPS and PEEK directly onto the surface of an advanced thermoplastic composite laminate. The over-moulded features can be varied and complex in nature, enabling CCP Gransden to increase the capability of the overall thermoplastic composite component, while also supporting their clients light-weighting and parts count reduction goals.

The large audience at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane were told that CCP Gransden perform their composite over-moulding operations within a state of the art High Volume Advanced Composite Production Cell, which has been designed, manufactured and installed for them by Engel.

Engel UK were also winners on the night, in the category Prime Machinery Supplier Partnership, which recognised the work they had done with CCP Gransden to bring this Composite Production Cell to fruition.
