EarthCARE is the sixth project by the European Space Agency (ESA) aimed at studying how the climate is changing, both due to natural causes and human actions. This project will look at clouds, tiny particles in the air and how sunlight and heat move through the atmosphere. The information gathered will help scientists make better climate models and studies.

The project, worth €2.8 million, kicked off in December 2023. The satellite launch is planned for May 2024 and it will be tested and adjusted for six months after that. The project has two main parts: the first lasts a year, and the second could go for up to 3.5 years. Serco will be working on both parts.

Serco's responsibilities include organising operations, defining processes, training the team, planning missions, monitoring operations from start to finish, managing any issues or changes and ensuring seamless and efficient delivery of the project.
