TODAY’S R&D IS TOMORROW'S COMMERCIAL ADVANTAGE – ARE YOU TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OUR R&D IN SCOTLAND?
ADS Scotland is delighted to partner with Scottish Universities on the next briefings series focussing on topics around R&D Technology.
Taking place weekly over 3 months, the sixth session is on:
Talk 1: Space science research and facility development in Earth Sciences
This talk will provide an overview of our space-related research in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at St Andrews, including the associated technology and analytical developments. This includes cosmochemistry and spectroscopy of planetary materials, mission participation, and development of facilities to simulate the interiors of planets.
Speaker: Dr Claire Cousins, School of Earth & Environmental Sciences.
Talk 2: Power to Liquids, the Future of Sustainable Aviation?
The Air Transport Action Group has set the ambitious target of neutral carbon growth from 2020. Aircraft efficiency and optimised flight operations form part of the strategy to achieving neutral carbon growth but the most significant contributor to emission reduction will be the large-scale adoption of renewable jet fuel. Using the power-to-liquids strategy we aim to develop routes to fully synthetic jet fuel using novel, multi-functional catalysts to transform H2 and CO2 directly to the desired mixture of hydrocarbons.
Speaker: Dr Paul Webb, School of Chemistry.
