DigitalCNC, a spinout from the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), brings closed-loop optimisation and physics-based intelligence directly into Siemens NX, CATIA V5, and Mastercam. In complex aerospace machining, such as thin-walled ribs, spars, and monolithic frames, traditional toolpath issues usually reveal themselves only when cutting begins. DigitalCNC changes this paradigm by enabling engineers to fix problems on the laptop rather than on the machine tool.
Before a part program is released to the shop floor, DigitalCNC simulates exact machine and controller behavior offline. In just a few clicks, it predicts true chip loads, feedrate drops, machining risks and cycle times. By closing the loop between real-world machine physics and CAM programming, the software automatically optimises toolpaths and cutting parameters before a single chip is cut.
This virtual-first approach maximizes existing CAM investments and helps close the engineering skills gap by giving less experienced programmers senior-level confidence. Ultimately, manufacturers eliminate costly scrap, reduce physical prove-out iterations on the shop floor, and gain reliable cycle times they can confidently quote against.
