Aircraft Deliveries Accelerate Towards 1,000 for 2022

  • November saw 116 global aircraft deliveries as the sector continued to recover from the disruption of the pandemic.
  • With 976 aircraft now delivered this year, a final total of more than 1,000 is now expected for the first time since 2019.
  • The backlog of large commercial aircraft on global manufacturers’ order books remains above 13,000 for the 12th consecutive month.

A strong November for aircraft deliveries saw 92 single aisle aircraft and 24 widebodies delivered to customers, as the global industry continues its recovery from the low volumes of 2020 and 2021.

While just 50 orders were placed last month, the backlog of aircraft orders remains high at 13,497, representing many years of future manufacturing worth around £200bn to UK industry.

A successful December for manufacturers would see the 1,000 deliveries mark broken for the first time in three years, in a year that has so far seen the fastest pace of orders since 2015.

ADS Policy Director Paul Oxley said:
“The aerospace industry in the UK and globally has been looking for signs of a strengthening recovery, and the strong order and delivery figures for 2022 are welcome indications.

“There is still a long way to go for the recovery to reach all parts of the supply chain, and employers are facing new challenges, including skills gaps and soaring energy costs.

“In 2023 we hope to see the rebound from the difficult last few years continue, and perhaps put the delivery record set in 2018 back in sight.”
