Liskeard-based Tiflex Ltd. (“Tiflex”), a member of the family-owned global engineering James Walker Group, has acquired Acoustic Polymers Ltd. (“APL”), a specialist in delivering high-performance polymeric-based materials aimed predominantly at acoustic signature management for subsea environmental protection.

New technology…new expertise

APL’s specialist materials are especially suited to applications in ultrasound, sonar and subsea electrical and electronics markets. The strategic acquisition of this business will bring together elastomer and thermoplastic materials technology and product manufacture.

Under Tiflex ownership, APL will continue to be run as an independent business servicing its existing customer base with the manufacture of specialised and bespoke items as well as development of new products, processes and materials from its site at Churcham, in Gloucestershire.

Production capabilities

APL’s managing director, Malcolm Norris, will be staying with the company with the key aim of continuing to grow the business. He will also lead production and technical teams at Tiflex in developing knowledge and experience of polyurethane technology.

Securing future business

Tom Collins, managing director of Tiflex, sees this acquisition as an important step: “This is an exciting development for both businesses and our customers. Bringing these different material technologies together will not only help us secure the supply chain for our existing client base but also provide the opportunity to develop products that will move us into new markets and applications. I am very much looking forward to working with our new colleagues at APL and seeing the next chapter of the story develop”.
