Streaming high-quality live video typically requires significant bandwidth, leading to high operational costs. Network instability further compounds these challenges, resulting in video drops at critical moments. Vidar solves these real-world challenges by compressing live video down to sub-30kps per stream. This means users drastically reduce data usage, save associated costs and enhance situational awareness even in the most challenging and contested network conditions. With build in features such as area of interest motion detection, high-quality still image capture, image preservation and secure transfer, Vidar is here to increase operational advantage.
Solent, 27th February 2025: As a global leader of mission critical communication, DTC is proud to announce the launch of Vidar, a low Size Weight and Power (SWaP) two-channel video compression solution designed for ultra-low bandwidth, real-time high quality video streaming across contested environments.
Jacob Randbaek, Business Unit Director, Law Enforcement at DTC said: "Vidar will position itself as a strong contender in the miniature, low bandwidth video streaming market. Vidar has a significantly smaller footprint than its competitors and has the advantage of interfacing with external modems and RF radios for ultimate resilience. This flexibility in deployment, increases manueuverability, ease of integration and reduces its SWaP. Vidar has no dependence on servers allowing it to stand alone in a mission. As an independent product it can stream directly to a smartphone, to a monitoring site or into a preferred video management system, enhancing mission effect immediately".
Designed for uninterrupted streaming in unstable or congested networks, Vidar delivers superior-quality, real-time video with minimal latency. Whether streaming from austere rural areas with poor cellular coverage or operating within private IP networks, Vidar ensures robust and reliable video transmissions. Its ultra SWaP profile makes it ideal for drone-mounted applications and other space-constrained deployments. The built-in motion detection allows users to define areas of interest and enables high-quality still image capture. A configurable pre- and post-event recording feature ensures that critical moments are preserved, with images automatically transferred to secure FTP/SFTP servers for further analysis.
Vidar's compatibility with standard IP and USB cameras allows users to leverage existing camera infrastructure for low-cost sustainable deployment and is capable of utlizing public 4G and 5G networks with ultra-low data rates, it enables 24/7 situational awareness, cutting down carrier data whilst delivering optimizing video storage in HQ or cloud environments.
Vidar's output streams use RTSP or WebRTC, enabling seamless ingestion into existing platforms, from centralized video management systems to a video player on a mobile device.
