ADS are open for bookings for the United Kingdom Pavilion at the fourth edition of DSEI Japan in 2027 at Makuhari Messe.
As Japan's only large-scale fully integrated defence event, DSEI Japan 2027 will bring together stakeholders across the supply chain in air, land, naval, security and joint defence communities to showcase cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions.
With the full endorsement and participation of key Japanese government departments, including the Japanese Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, and the Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA), DSEI Japan provides a significant platform for industry to engage with the Japanese defence community and the wider Asia-Pacific market, and to generate new business opportunities and partnerships between Japan and the world.
Market Insight and Opportunities
Since approving its new constitution to support its allies and defend its borders, Japan has become one of the world’s top military spenders. This coupled with the government's plan to reshuffle their focus towards its defence capabilities (particularly in Future Tech, AI, and Space) whilst increasing their defence budget to 2% GDP, makes it an ideal time for companies to engage with the Japanese market and decision-making officials.
Japan is actively seeking to enhance its defence capabilities including advanced military technologies and systems through international cooperation. The defence partnership between Japan and the UK has evolved into one of the most consequential strategic alliances in the Indo-Pacific. Both nations view each other as one of their closest security partners in Asia and Europe respectively.
The UK and Japan have agreed on security cooperation focusing on defence equipment and technology to enhance mutual security and defence trade. Central to the Japan-UK collaboration is the Hiroshima Accord, which provides a comprehensive roadmap for deepening interoperability, joint exercises and advanced defence technology cooperation.
Other joint initiatives include
Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP): A trilateral project with Italy to develop a sixth-generation fighter jet by 2035, integrating Japan-UK defence industries and securing high-skilled jobs through shared R&D and supply chain integration.
AUKUS Pillar 2 collaboration: Consultation with Japan for potential involvement in advanced military technologies under AUKUS Pillar 2, including quantum computing, AI, hypersonic missile defence and undersea warfare systems.
