Following the previous successful event in 2018, ADS are pleased to be organising another Public Security Exhibition (PSE) in Madrid in partnership with the British Embassy Madrid. Working in partnership with the Department for International Trade (DIT) in Spain, this year's PSE will focus on key areas including Police Forces, Critical National Infrastructure, Cybersecurity and Disinformation, and Private Security Providers.

Market Opportunities:

Having been NATO allies since 1982, the UK and Spain work closely together on defence and security issues and operations, and the UK is considered by Spain to be a trusted partner in the security domain with a high level of technological sophistication. However, similarly sophisticated sources of products have recently eroded the UK market share due to more aggressive commercial approach and higher levels of commitment and presence in the market, namely the USA, France, Germany and Israel.

Whilst crime rates in Spain have remained relatively low, there is an increasing focus on public security in the context of the shared terrorism threat and cybersecurity. Demand for security systems is high with border protection, cybersecurity and CNI protection identified as priority areas.

In terms of expenditure on security, despite the restrains caused by the pandemic, the 2022 budget allocated €9.3 bn to the Interior Ministry, a 5.1% increase over 2021 of which €1.4 bn correspond to equipment acquisition, mostly in the following areas: national security; anti-terrorism and organised crime; mass-destruction weapons non-proliferation; counterintelligence; cybersecurity; maritime, airspace and space security; economic, financial and energy security; environmental and pandemic security.

Based on the above, and on intelligence from the Embassy in Madrid, the PSE Madrid 2022 is likely to be of particular interest to companies supplying, amongst other solutions, the following capabilities:

  • Border control and security solutions
  • CNI protection
  • Autonomous systems and counter-measures
  • Cyber security capabilities
  • Advanced surveillance, tracking capabilities
  • Intelligence gathering solutions
  • Counter-measures
  • Anti-disinformation tools.

Type of visitors to be invited:

  • Public security organisations – national, regional and local police forces, border, customs, prison, military
  • Local companies and relevant distributors. Embassy intelligence points out that it is increasingly important in certain areas to work with local players preferred suppliers of the administration.
  • Defence Attaches
  • Critical Infrastructure Operators
  • Private sector providers of security services.
