Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid today announced details of the Spending Round 2019, setting out the Government’s spending plans for 2020-21.

Measures affecting the Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space industries represented by ADS include:

  • An additional £2bn funding towards Brexit readiness, committed to areas including port infrastructure and business readiness.
  • New funding of £2.2bn for the Ministry of Defence, including up to £1.2 billion on UK Armed Forces modernisation, prioritising capabilities such as cyber, shipbuilding and the nuclear deterrent.
  • A 6.3 per cent increase in Home Office funding, including continuation of the additional £160m announced at Budget 2018 for counter-terrorism.

ADS Chief Executive Paul Everitt said:

“Our world-class defence and security sectors work closely with the Ministry of Defence and Home Office to make sure the UK’s Armed Forces, police and security services have access to the equipment and capabilities they need to protect our national security. The increases in funding for these areas announced by the Chancellor today are welcome.”
