The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS), a specialist in digital engineering capability, has announced the presentation call for the annual Airbus Flight Physics event.
Airbus has unveiled its ‘Bird of Prey’ conceptual airliner design with the goal of motivating the next generation of aeronautical engineers, underscoring how they can make a difference by applying technologies researched at the company in hybrid-electric propulsion, active control systems and advanced composite structures. This topic will be discussed at the DiPaRt event.

‘Innovating green aircraft optimisation for a sustainable future’ will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Airbus DiPaRT. The Distributed Partnership in Research and Technology (DiPaRT) was created by Airbus as a mechanism for engaging and collaborating with the UK and European Flight Physics R&T community. The event will present Airbus’s strategic aspirations, with focus on Flight Physics contributions, through engaging with organisations and partners to identify potential technologies and research aligned with core strategy.
Airbus created DiPaRT as a mechanism for communicating with, engaging and orchestrating the UK Flight Physics R&T community. The aim is to foster a coherent, well-informed and motivated partnership that can help Airbus deliver effectively its strategic vision for a UK capability, supporting design and integration of wings, landing gear and associated systems. Following the establishment of the UK Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) this remit acquires a special significance.
The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS) is a not-for-profit specialist in digital engineering capability. As a trusted and neutral provider, its vision is to be a recognised, independent digital test bed for the design of high value engineering products and processes. Facilitating a greater understanding of how a product will perform throughout its lifecycle, CFMS' digital test bed forms the foundation for Through-life Engineering Services, creating a virtual replica of systems and processes used for investigation of options and opportunities, in advance of physical development.
Evangelos Vekris, Airbus DiPaRT Flight Physics Coordinator, who is leading the 2019 event commented: “Airbus is investing and focusing research on identifying new technologies that deliver significant environmental benefits. Engaging with the DiPaRT network will enable us to collaborate with international research partners, and to collectively to develop the next generation of technologies and capabilities for future aircraft development.”
Striving for effective environmental management and decarbonising the industry is a key part of Airbus core strategy, with a long term objective of emission neutral flight. Rapid innovation is required to create opportunities to reshape and transform the sector. Driven by disruptive technologies, new materials, and digitalisation, Airbus is actively searching for sustainable solutions to deliver sectoral emission reduction goals. Carbon emission reducing technology demonstrators such as BLADE, AlbatrossONE, E-Fan X, CityAirbus and Vahana mark a step change in aircraft conceptual design, ushering in a new era of flight. Flight Physics is at the core of an optimised future green aircraft.
The conference will take place between 26th - 28th November 2019 and is hosted at the Centre for Modelling & Simulation, Bristol.
The event commences with a series of presentations by industry and research institution leaders, reflecting on the past and ensuring the relevance for the future of DiPaRT. A keynote speaker will set the scene for the two-day symposium of talks and discussions.
Corporate, SME, academic and research organisations focused on developing innovation are invited to submit presentation abstracts applicable to the event theme.
