Maria joined British Airways’ legal team in 2000, taking on responsibility for the legal function in 2003 and for public affairs in 2006.  Following the creation of IAG in 2011, Maria added HR to her responsibilities and joined British Airways’ Management Committee.

Alex Cruz, Chairman and Chief Executive of British Airways said: “On behalf of the Management Committee, and everyone at British Airways, I would like to thank Maria for her significant contribution to the airline over many years. Maria has been integral in our business’ development over time, leading two key functions, HR & Legal, in the organisation. Maria leaves with our very good wishes for the future.”

Maria Da Cunha said: “I feel truly privileged to have had the opportunity to work with exceptional individuals and teams over the last 17 years at British Airways. I will always remain a passionate advocate of British Airways and its people, I take with me many wonderful experiences and I am excited about the opportunities ahead as I build my non-executive career.”

Angela Williams is currently Group People Director at the consumer group Which? and, prior to this, Angela Williams was Group HR Director at Sodexo, the world’s largest provider of quality of life services, with responsibility for the delivery of people services for over 400,000 employees in 80 countries.

Alex Cruz continued: “I am delighted to welcome Angela to British Airways. People are at the heart of our business and Angela’s HR leadership experience, in particular in consumer-facing and service-orientated businesses will be a huge asset to British Airways. I look forward to working with Angela when she joins the team in June.”

Angela Williams said: “I am looking forward to the opportunity, in joining British Airways, to build an environment where every member of the team is engaged. British Airways is a strong business with strong foundations and a strong brand. My focus will be to work with the whole organisation and create an environment where everyone plays a key role, where everyone has the opportunity to grow, flourish and achieve their potential, while delivering for our customers in an ever-changing world.”

Andrew Fleming, Head of Legal & Company Secretary, will take up leadership of British Airways’ legal function, reporting to Alex Cruz.
