CNC MILLING AND TURNING – Inflite has a fully equipped CNC milling facility comprising of over 40 CNC machines operating in 3, 4, and 5 axis. With a maximum bed size of up to 7m long, and 1.4 metres wide Inflite’s Stansted facility holds a wide range of machine tools from Matsuura, Hermle, Handtmann, Mazak, and Hurco in order to complete a wide selection of machined components.

Inflite has a full CAD Suite where we utilise HyperMill CAM Software to offline program all work coming through the CNC facility. When 2D models are provided by the customer Inflite’s Programmers will create a 3D model before programming. Our skilled programmers look for the most efficient machining methods and adapt with the latest technology advancements in tooling to provide an efficient milling process. To reduce our cutting times and increase output, Inflite utilises high speed spindles capable of up to 30,000rpm, as well as clustering multiple components per pallet and billet. When component size and batch quantity allows, billets are clamped to tombstones mounted onto our multi-pallet CNC machine tools. This reduces both turnaround time to our customers and machine downtime but allowing for longer running time “when the lights go out”.

Inflite offer a comprehensive range of CNC Lathes from Mazak and XYZ. Those fitted with HydraFeed bar feeds allow for large batch quantities of bolts, bushes and pins to be run effortlessly and in an efficient manner. Within our Turning cell Inflite regularly undertake: • Thread rolling • Turning to 1250mm in diameter To support our CNC facility we have a selection of Merlin CMM Inspection machines, a temperature controlled inspection area, and a skilled inspection team who check each component through the manufacturing process. Providing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) for all new parts, as well as any part where the milling process is changed. Our Inspection work with Operators and Engineers to ensure that re-works and scrapped components are minimal and quality is upheld by ensuring tooling is checked for wear, first off inspections are carried out and machine accuracy is maintained and checked frequently. Our Programmers utilise Vericut software to make sure that all components are right first time by running a simulation to mimic what will happen on the machine tool, and allow for any issues to be addressed before metal is cut. Inflite’s objective is to achieve a nil scrap rate and adopts a “Check twice, Cut once” mentality to quality.

FABRICATION –  Inflite has the capacity of 4 Induction Furnaces of 2 cubic meters to 7 cubic meters and 2 Gas fired from 3 cubic meters to 6.7 cubic meters. In-House Stretch Forming, Hot Forming, Fluid Press, Rubber Press, Drop Hammer, Double Action Press & Triple action Press, Press Brake Machine Bending and forming. Including a huge selection of sizes of Pipe Bending for every application. Our fully qualified engineers conduct hardness & Tensile testing in-house, we offer a -25Deg C chilling service, and Solvent & Aqua Wash degrease cleaning providing FOD free product delivery. This wide range of manufacturing methods allows Inflite to undertake a large range of capabilities all under one roof, without having to rely on subcontracting. 

Inflite offers a turn Key routing service for most formed sheet metal machining applications with our 2 CMS ARES 5 Axis Routing Machines. These allow us to quickly, and with a high degree of precision route and drill formed skins up to a size of 1.4m x 3.5m. Inflite is one of the few suppliers within the UK and Europe to offer Hot Forming of Titanium.

Our welding section is NadCap Approved for Spot & Seam, MIG, TIG, Gtaw, Poke and Lagging, including brazing. For process reliability we provide in-house NDT, radiography and pressure testing on all our processes. Inflite’s aerospace approved heat treatment facility, fully integrate into our hot and cold forming and assembly services. Heat treatment is an essential support facility to our processes, and meet the standards of NADCAP, as well as specific customer approvals. Our fully qualified engineers conduct hardness & Tensile testing in-house, we offer a -25Deg C chilling service, and Solvent & Aqua Wash degrease cleaning providing FOD free product delivery. This wide range of manufacturing methods allows Inflite to undertake a large range of capabilities all under one roof, without having to rely on subcontracting.

HOT FORMING – Having been involved in hot forming since the 1970s, Inflite (then Yewlands) was the key player bringing the technology to the UK from the United States. Hot forming is the process where the tool and material is heated to a high temperature (as specified on the specs) that then allows for complex shapes to be produced that is at a reduced risk of splitting, free of thinning, strong and that may be unable to be formed by other methods. Our range of hot forming machines use single and dual form methods providing Inflite the ability to assist in tooling design in order to produce consistently accurate parts, and at a competitive cost.

ASSEMBLY – Inflite undertakes multiple assembly operations in-house using lean manufacturing methods, and daily management boards to ensure build projects run efficiently. From minor sub-assemblies to complex production driven jig bound builds, Inflite are able to offer the complete turnkey solution many of our customers require.

SURFACE TREATMENT AND FINISHING – Inflite’s NadCap approved surface treatment Facility (Aerospace Surface Treatments or AST) provides essential surface treatments, anodising, mask and paint finish, and NDT to both Inflite engineering and its own dedicated customer base.

Having undergone £1.2m of investment in 2019, allowing AST to become a key player in the surface engineering industry. Offering a vast range of NDT and surface engineering approvals, its name has become synonymous with service times and quality within the industry. AST have two dedicated treatment lines with tanks 6ft and 12ft in length. We have operators running two lines which include cleaning, pickling, passivation, chromate, along with varied anodising processes. We currently offer three anodising technologies: Chromic acid anodising (CAA), Sulphuric acid anodising (SAA), and Tartaric Sulphuric Anodising (TSA). We offer three chromate conversion systems: Bonderite M-CR1200, a coloured coating formally known as Alocrom 1200, Bonderite M-CR1001, a clear chromate conversion system that replaced the Alocrom 1000 process and SurTec 650 Chromium (VI)–free trivalent passivation for aluminium. AST also provide a range of treatments for stainless steels and titanium. Included in these are both chromated and non-chromated stainless steel passivation systems, as well as pickles for both stainless steel and titanium alloys. To finish the components we have a large preparation facility with in-house die-cutting and masking team. Masking is completed before both wet treatments and spray coating. Having recently undergone a large investment into its paint facilities. AST can offer Prime and Top Coat finishes to a high standard in its 4 new spray booths. For component identification, inkjet ident system and computer controlled vibro engraver are used. AST provides the finish touches to the majority of components manufactured by Inflite, adding yet another list of processes that can be completed in-house within the Inflite Group.
