Following the Daesh inspired terrorist attacks in Spain in August 2017, there has been a heightened focus on security by the country’s homeland security and law enforcement agencies making this an important location for the next PSE Madrid.
Having been NATO allies since 1982, the UK and Spain work closely together on defence and security issues and operations, and the UK is considered by Spain to be a trusted partner in the security domain. Whilst crime rates have remained relatively low, there is an increasing focus on public security in the context of the shared terrorism threat. Demand for security systems is high with border protection and CNI protection identified as priority areas.
According to the OECD, Spain’s economic growth in 2017 was strong and balanced, and is projected to remain robust in 2018 and 2019. In 2016, the Spanish police forces spent €10.3bn on public security including acquisition of new technologies. The private security sector also saw an increase of sales of security products (systems and alarms) of 3.6% year on year. Added together, these factors make Spain an exceptionally attractive market for UK companies in the security domain.
Working in partnership with the Department for International Trade (DIT) in Spain, this year's PSE will focus on key areas including Police Forces, Critical National Infrastructure and Private security providers.
