ADS is pleased to announce that we will be joined by Angela Essel, Head of the Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC) based within the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism (OSCT) in the Home Office, who will brief members on how the joint government-industry unit delivers upon its aim to combine government, academic and private sector expertise to provide security outcomes for the United Kingdom. This will be an excellent opportunity for members to hear first-hand from the Head of JSaRC about how the organisation works to overcome the traditional barriers that have prevented collaboration between the private and public sectors on national security and resilience issues.
The Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC) was founded in 2016 by the UK Home Office. Formed within the Office for Security and Counter Terrorism, JSaRC works to provide security outcomes for the United Kingdom by combining government, academic and private sector expertise. JSaRC’s vision is for a future where government, academia and the security industry (including larger firms and SMEs) work together in an integrated way to deliver technological responses to the UK’s security challenges and create a safer environment for our citizens at home and abroad.
Appointed as Head of the Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC) in July 2019, Angela Essel’s previous role in JSaRC was as Head of the Joint Response Team, where she provided strong leadership for a team of around 10 Civil Servants and seconded personnel who are responsible for leading on a number of programmes. Having worked with the Home Office since 2012, Angela joined JSaRC in September 2016, helping the unit to establish and develop in its initial growth stage in order to raise awareness and build market capability to combat UK security related issues. Angela previously held roles within the Home Office’s Science Centre for Applied Science and Technology (CAST), the Security Innovation and Demonstration Centre (SIDC) and the National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA).
