Space-Comm-360x200

Even during the worst of the COVID pandemic, the organisers of Space-Comm Expo were determined to bring a world-class in-person space event.

Organisers Hub Exhibitions and Farnborough International got their wish this week when they welcomed hundreds of trade visitors and exhibitors into the Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre for their inaugural, COVID-secure, exhibition on the commercialisation of space.

ADS Head of Space Bhavin Vyas was there and said of the event,

“This extremely well organised event in these uncertain times facilitated some great engagement between industry peers and key government officials”.

Over 80 exhibitors supported the event, including over 20 ADS members. Marc Brooker and Charlotte Godolfin from the ADS membership team were there to provide their support, with Marc saying,

Never thought I’d be so excited to be back at an exhibition. A fantastic opportunity to catch up with ADS members and discover new opportunities in the space sector.

ADS were delighted to welcome political guests to Space-Comm Expo including Rachel Maclean MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Transport who we toured around several ADS members at the exhibition. There were also several MPs and senior Government Officials who attended the show and had some excellent engagement with ADS members.

Extensive keynote programme

More than 85 leading industry and government speakers offered their insight during an informative keynote and seminar programme.

Opening addresses on day 1 were by European Space Agency’s Elodie Viau, ADS CEO Kevin Craven and Ian Annett from The UK Space Agency. The theme of the day was the civil application of space and brought a range of interesting content including from Will Whitehorn, President of UKSpace who addressed the current challenges and opportunities for the space industry and a panel discussion on the plans and aspirations of the UK Spaceports with four of the seven potential spaceports in the UK represented.

On day 2 the conversation moved on to defence with an insightful keynote from Inmarsat CEO, Rajeev Suri, who called for a commitment to sustainability, including a ‘Net Zero’ equivalent for space. In the afternoon Andrew Kennedy from BAE Systems spoke about Securing Britain’s Space Future.
