The latest September 2021 – November 2021 issue of ADVANCE is out now and you can read the digital version here.
ADVANCE is the official ADS magazine which is circulated physically and digitally to key decision makers in the UK and international aerospace, defence, security & resilience and space sectors.
Featuring a quarterly magazine, online daily news and a weekly newsletter. ADVANCE is editorially independent of ADS and covers the UK’s aerospace, defence, security and space industries and their reach into global markets, providing a platform for all stakeholders to exchange information, from industry and academia, to governments, the military and security forces.
What’s inside the latest issue…
With the wide range of defence and security solutions on show at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) – held at London’s ExCeL, 14th-17th September – we target the British expertise displayed at this live event.
Coverage in this special DSEI edition considers the event’s focus on greater integration across land, sea and air, with cyber and space straddling the traditional domains (including within the parallel virtual event, DSEI Connect), whilst focusing on the tried and tested and new innovative solutions being showcased in the UK pavilion. We also see how ADS is working closely with UK Defence and Security Exports (UKDSE) and the international delegation team, to support UK companies.
The leadership team at Raytheon Technologies (RTX) tells us about their plans to grow the company’s UK presence, we check out the formal launch of the concept and assessment phase of Tempest, the UK’s future combat air system (FCAS), see how Project Mosquito seeks to advance the potential of uncrewed combat air vehicles (UCAVs), analyse why – with new Typhoons about to enter service in Qatar and Kuwait with what may be the world’s most effective active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar – the UK is developing similar, yet more advanced, technology and we investigate why the UK’s new class of frigate is still shrouded in mystery and chart the work being done to deliver 148 Challenger 3 tanks by 2027 to provide greater interoperability with NATO allies.
There are also several special reports wherein we highlight how the UK defence training estate has provided a home, training facilities and a safe place for service personnel since the beginning of the pandemic, examine the new double-pronged ‘push’ and ‘pull’ UK Export Finance (UKEF) financing strategy providing export support for SMEs and delve into the diverse array of technology innovations being developed in national aerospace technology exploitation programme (NATEP) supported projects and we reveal how drones have been gathering data from never before-explored volcanoes to help forecast future eruptions.
With new challenges and opportunities on the horizon following the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask ADS’ new Chief Strategy Officer, John Copley, why he is optimistic about the future and the key areas of support the association can provide its members across all of the sectors it represents.
We review the inaugural Space-Com event which took place at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre in July, preview the Dubai Airshow set to go ahead as a live event, where a number of UK companies have already confirmed their attendance and we turn the spotlight on ADS’ 3D Digital Cabin experience set for launch at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX). We also discover how the cybersecurity sector is fighting back against ransomeware gangs and strategies aimed at tackling the security risks associated with the coronavirus-influenced move to home working and the use of garden offices.
Finally, following the successful demonstration and proving flights of hybrid electric aircraft in Scotland and the west of England recently, we consider the importance of decarbonising regional aviation as part of the UK’s commitment to sustainable aviation and we see how one of the oldest names in UK aviation is playing a key role towards realising unmanned, autonomous aircraft, plus we provide our usual roundup of the latest news and developments relating to UK aerospace, defence, security and space activities.
