#MeetADS: Harriet Wollerton, Aerospace Operations & Business Development Manager

Harriet joined ADS in January 2016 as Aerospace Operations and Business Development Manager, supporting the sector specific Aerospace Special Interest Groups and working with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Harriet coordinates and leads on ADS’s Aerospace business development initiatives, focussing on High Value Opportunities (HVO) in the USA, China, France and Indonesia. Major activity over the last 18 months has included the Aerospace & Defense Suppliers Summit (A&DSS); Seattle Supplier Conference; new technology symposium and bid writing workshops.

DIT, BEIS and ADS are currently planning future events and business opportunities with primes and tier ones. This activity is in line with the Aerospace Growth Partnership (AGP) Export for Success Framework which aims to increase support available to UK businesses, particularly SMEs, pursuing export opportunities. By working together, suitable UK suppliers can now be matched to international business opportunities. This joint Industry and Government work facilitates increased exporting.

When Harriet was younger she didn’t plan a career in Aerospace, and indeed had never been encouraged into a science based career at school. Once she began her career at Lucas Aerospace however, she got very interested and never looked back! Harriet is passionate about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) with a particular focus on encouraging girls to think of careers in STEM subjects.

Harriet began her career in Aerospace in 1998 joining Lucas Aerospace Systems (subsequently TRW aeronautical systems) in France, as a purchaser in the supply chain department and then as a commodity specialist in strategic sourcing. Harriet then had roles in Goodrich (after the takeover) in marketing, business development and project management. Following the takeover by United Technologies Corporation, Harriet moved into the PMO (Programme Management Office) to oversee New Product Introduction (NPI) and Production Programmes across the Actuation Systems UK business, as well as enabling and facilitating reporting and ensuring the implementation of UTC product introduction procedures and reporting.

While based in our London office, Harriet also spends most weeks out and about around the country visiting Member companies to better understand their capabilities, capacity and ambitions.
