Achieving Net Zero graphic

Last week, the Department for Transport (DfT) launched their Jet Zero consultation. Running for 8 weeks from 14 July until 8 September, the DfT are consulting on the Government’s plans to deliver net zero aviation by 2050 and an almost 80 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2035.

The strategy outlined in the consultation is formed around three principles: clear goal, multiple solutions; international leadership; delivering in partnership with industry. Beyond these principles, five types of measures are consulted on: system efficiencies; sustainable aviation fuel; zero emission flight; markets and removals; influencing consumers.

UK aerospace has exceptional industrial strengths in every region and nation. Pioneering capabilities exist across the UK from high-tech propulsion technology and precision engineering to wings of the future, fuel systems and power electronics. We are excited by and committed to working with Government and the wider industry to achieve the Jet Zero Council’s ambitions and goal of net zero emissions for UK Aviation by 2050, and so welcome this consultation and will be responding in due course.

The industry has a clear and credible plan on how to achieve net zero, including the continued development of state-of-the-art aircraft and engine designs, increased used of sustainable aviation fuels, and support for radical and disruptive third generation new aircraft and propulsion technologies.

ADS would welcome all input from members on this topic. This is an opportunity to demonstrate the industry’s commitment to achieving net zero, while also working with the Government to support and invest in UK aerospace.
